According to Middlesex Township Sgt. Randy Ruediger, McCandless Township Municipal Sewer Authority Supervisor Mark Lansberry, 58, was driving north on Route 8 Saturday night when his Jeep crossed into the southbound lane twice before hitting a pole, sending his Jeep into a shallow stream. The Jeep, a taxpayer-owned vehicle assigned to the Sewer Authority, was totaled.

Ruediger said Lansberry tried to get police to leave the scene when they arrived.

"He was seated inside the vehicle when the officer arrived and made contact with him. He was on his cellphone. He indicated that he was fine and told everybody to leave," said Ruediger.

Middlesex Township Police are investigating the crash, although they haven't determined Lansberry’s exact speed prior to the crash.

Lansberry, who was described by a Sewer Authority employee as a “nice guy,” has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the case.
