PITTSBURGH — This article originally appeared on SteelersNOW.com.
DK Metcalf isn’t looking toward the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 3 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
Not just yet, anyway.
“I just look to practice, because I know that’s how I sharpen my sword and get ready for game time,” Metcalf said after Thursday’s practice at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “I’ve had a good two days of practice, looking forward to tomorrow’s walkthrough, and then Sunday’s gonna hit us in the face and I’ll be ready then.”
The Steelers’ No. 1 receiver, who hasn’t had the best go of it as of late, will look to shake off a slow start. Head coach Mike McCarthy made it known earlier in the day that the 6-foot-4, 235-pound wideout hasn’t lost any regard within the building despite a few dropped passes.
Metcalf has eight receptions for 67 yards through two contests. He’s been targeted 19 times.
“I think just the biggest thing, No. 1, from everybody that’s around him, just know that he has our support,” McCarthy said. “We’re gonna throw the ball to DK, I can promise you that. But just continue to work. He’s a true professional. He does all the extra things you look for in your players, particularly in the perimeter with the extra skill work here — you can hear the JUGS (machines) as I’m talking.
