Pennsylvania officials highlighted a road paving project along Route 40 and a $910,000 grant awarded to Null Land Inc. in Fayette County.
The paving work in Wharton Township is part of 79 Rapid Deployment Projects announced statewide by Gov. Josh Shapiro.
The Route 40 project began Aug. 24 and will cover nearly 10 miles to improve ride quality and extend the service life of the road.
The initiative adds six miles of paving beyond original plans, funded through an initial $250 million secured in the 2026-27 state budget for rapid road repairs.
“The Shapiro Administration is showing up for every county with these accelerated projects, which will also allow PennDOT maintenance crews and funds to complete other improvements and preservation throughout the Commonwealth,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said. “Additionally, this multimodal grant is one of the most recent examples of years of investments that help communities’ mobility and their economies.”
PennDOT District 12 — which encompasses Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties — is slated to receive $60.7 million in Rapid Deployment Project funding over the next 18 months.
The $910,000 grant awarded to Null Land Inc. in North Union Township will support a local road improvement project. The grant is among 50 recent Multimodal Transportation Fund awards totaling nearly $54 million across Pennsylvania. PennDOT District 12 Executive Rachel Duda emphasized the local importance of the project funding.
“Both of these investments are important to addressing transportation needs in our region,” PennDOT District 12 Executive Rachel Duda said. “These investments help us improve safety, preserve our infrastructure and support continued economic growth.”
