MILLVALE, Pa. — You can check out a lot more than books at the Millvale Library.

And the process for checking out tools is about to get easier. Local leaders just celebrated the groundbreaking for two new buildings that will house the Tool Lending Library.

Two shed-like buildings are being constructed behind the library. They’ll hold more than 1,000 tools, like ladders, weed whackers and painting drop cloths that people can borrow instead of buy.

The library started lending tools back in 2018, and leaders say a dedicated building will make the program even better.

“The idea is to get everything out [of the basement], make it more accessible, get it more visible to the public and make it safe for our staff and volunteers,” said Melissa Mason, the executive director of the Millvale Community Library.

Officials expect to have the project finished by December.
