Mother of Pittsburgh native heading to Arizona to watch son play in NFL championship

Marlene Sanders has not missed more than a few of her son’s football games since he was 7.

“We ‘re going to be in the stands just to cheer him on and it’s just an amazing feeling right now,” said Sanders.

In the big buildup to the epic weekend of the most important game of her son’s. Miles Sanders, life. His mother is offering some simple advice.

“I always tell them each and every game, ‘This is your moment.’” said Sanders. “I would just say to him to go out there, enjoy, have fun, and win the game.”

Milies’s football life started at age 7 and, except for a handful of games during the COVID-19 season, Marlene has watched every game he’s ever played in person.

Now, Miles is heading to the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“We’re blessed just to know that I’m a part of the journey that he’s going through. Every single sacrifice that was made is worth it because he’s basically fulfilled everything that he stated he was going to do,” said Sanders. “I wouldn’t do it any different, you know, driving up and down those highways and flying across the county and now to see him play in the Super Bowl, it’s like the best feeling in the world.”

Another local connection on the Eagles is former Pitt player Avonte Maddox and for the Kansas City Chiefs, the WPIAL is represented by South Fayette High School’s Justin Watson and Shadyside Academy’s Skyy Moore.
