National Aviary reveals names for striped skunk sisters

The wait is over! The new striped skunk sisters at the National Aviary have been named.

The National Aviary held a two-round contest for the sisters’ official monikers. The contest raised more than $2,500 in two and a half weeks, as well as increase attendance in September by 40% compared to previous years.

After all the votes the most popular suggestion won: Petunia and Daisy. Here’s how you can tell the sisters apart:

  • Petunia: The more outgoing sibling; her stripes curve slightly and points towards her left nostril!
  • Daisy: The sibling who hangs back and watches first; she has a narrower facial stripe and lighter fur on her chest.

The public can meet Petunia and Daisy during the daily Forest Friends talk or by adding a skunk painting encounter to a visit to the National Aviary.
