The newest animal ambassadors at the National Aviary are one step closer to getting their names.
Two weeks ago, the aviary started a naming competition for its two new striped skunk sisters. In that time, people from across the country submitted more than 1,800 name ideas!
The aviary’s animal care team has selected six names (three pairs) for the public to vote on in round two of the competition. The names are Feta and Ricotta, Petunia and Daisy, and Poppy and Pepper.
In round two, the public can vote between the three naming pairs. Voting is done online. It costs $5 for five votes, and you can vote as much as you like.
The sisters’ names will be announced in early October.
Currently, the skunks are living behind the scenes, but can be seen during the Forest Friends Expert Talk or a Skunk Painting Encounter.
