No revised offer was received, and a mediator present at the meeting recommended negotiations take place through the mediator “due to tone of recent meetings.”
The district made a counter offer to the PTFT’s last formal tabled offer, but received no response, according to the statement.
The district offered to proceed to fact finding, a hearing where the parties present their most recent offers in from of a neutral party for recommendations, in order to avoid the strike.
According to the statement, the offer was refused by the PTFT.
“The District is ready for serious negotiations and we are willing to work all night on Tuesday if that’s what it takes to avoid the strike,” said Superintendent Jeannine French.
Parents who talked to Channel 11’s Carly Flynn Morgan said their main concern is finding childcare for young children when they work full-time jobs.
Students at Peters Township High School said they would like to see the teachers get at least some of what they are asking for.
"I mean that's their job. If they need more money, especially those older teachers that have been there for years, that want higher pay - they deserve it," said Manny Lopez, a senior at Peters Township.
The next meeting for negotiations will be held Oct. 27. Work stoppage is set to begin Oct. 28 if an agreement is not reached.
