EDGEWOOD, Pa. — A neighbor and friend is remembering Dr. Idris Evans after the brutal knife attack that took his life.
“They’re a wonderful family and they didn’t deserve this,” Jeannine Fisher said. She lives just a few doors down from the Evans family.
They have kids around the same age.
“I remember when I first met Idris; he helped me carry my groceries from down the street to my house. I remembered his name because it was like, ‘Oh, that’s an interesting name,’” she said.
She describes the Evans family as loving, outgoing, friendly, and helpful.
“They would have this big Halloween party every year in their backyard. There would always be tons of people and kids,” Jeannine said.
She’s leaning on memories as she tries to wrap her head around the attack that took his life and left his wife Gina critically injured.
“We were talking, and it feels like it could have been any of us when we found out it didn’t seem like they [the Evans family and suspect Elijah Hemingway] were connected,” she said. “Our whole family is in shock.”
As Gina and her family continue to recover, Jeannine wants them to know they are not alone.
“We’re all praying for you. Our family, neighbors on the street, everyone is praying for you guys.”
