CRAFTON, Pa. — Liam John is frustrated. He says Duquesne Light and Crafton Borough are giving him the runaround and passing the buck when it comes to a tree hanging on a power line over a popular walking trail near Clearview Avenue and Crafton Blvd. According to John, the tree has been there for more than 10 days.

“If that tree comes down when someone’s under it, it’s at least going to be an injury,” he said. “It’s a heavy old tree.”

John says he and other neighbors have called the Borough and the power company multiple times since the tree fell on July 23.

But the tree remains.

The only change, he says, is the Borough put up barricades blocking access to the trail, but people are just walking around them.

“They see a sawhorse, no notice, no exclamation points, no stop sign, just a sawhorse, they walk right around it,” he said.

John wants someone to take responsibility and remove the tree before tragedy strikes.

“This is just a typical situation where red tape and bureaucracy might literally cost somebody an injury or a life,” he said. “When you’re on the trail, you don’t see it until you’re right there. And that’s, I think, part of the biggest danger.”

Duquesne Light told 11 News it’s looking into the issue.

Crafton Borough has not responded.
