ARNOLD, Pa. — Neighbors reached out to Channel 11 about a dilapidated house on Kenneth Avenue in Arnold, where the roof has collapsed with a family living right next door.
”Like a haunted house, actually,” neighbor Latecia Murphy said.
That is how neighbors describe the house’s current state.
”My bathroom window, you can see right inside, you can see all the way down to maybe the second floor ... the roof, the sky, everything, it’s just very visible,” Murphy said.
The roof has caved in and the windows are boarded up.
Murphy said she has seen it rapidly get worse over the last 12 to 13 years.
”Just watched it become more and more decrepit and the kids run through, it’s dangerous. We’ve listened to the roof fall more and more over the years. It’s terrible,” Murphy explained.
The house is privately owned and there’s a “for sale” sign out front, but the owner information is not listed on the county’s tax map.
Channel 11 reached out to the city.
The city said they helped get the property owner in touch with the demolition contractor, who is already in town tearing down other blighted properties.
The hope is that the coordinated effort will raze this property to the ground, bringing some relief to neighbors.
”They could tear it down and sell it to us and we could just expand. They need to tear it down and make it safer. Honestly, just tear it all down and build something new,” Murphy said.
The mayor said the Kenneth Avenue house is expected to be torn down, but it is unclear as to when.
The city also has about 80 other properties within the Arnold area it plans to demolish.
