McCANDLESS, Pa. — More than 100 people attended a zoning board meeting in McCandless Monday night as neighbors spoke out against a proposed Walmart.
Those who attended said their goal was to make sure the township heard their concerns.
Walmart wants to build a store along Blazier Drive, near the old Bally’s building.
“This is going to bring triple the traffic,” said McCandless resident Rite Martin.
Critics argue that the proposed supercenter would add too much traffic and cause runoff problems into Pine Creek.
The board is supposed to vote on the plan next week and neighbors said they’re not giving up their fight.
Meanwhile, another bomb threat was called in Monday night at the Walmart in Belle Vernon.
Bomb sniffing dogs were brought in to search the store and nothing was found. The evacuated employees and customers were then allowed back inside.
There have been several threats called into the same Walmart recently. Police continue to investigate and have not named a motive behind the threats.
The store is operating as normal.
