Northbound Route 88 long-term closure at Route 51

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The long-term closure of northbound Route 88 (Library Road) at the intersection with Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) in the City of Pittsburgh began Monday.

The work is part of the $18.99 million Route 51/88 project which includes the replacement of five bridges, construction of a new bridge, turning lane construction, roadway reconstruction, utility relocation, signal upgrades, lighting, sidewalk and drainage improvements, CCTV cameras and stream bank restoration.

The closure for the roadway reconstruction will last for 147 consecutive days.

All northbound traffic for Route 88 will be detoured as follows:

· Take Route 88 (Library Road) southbound to Connor Road (Route 3038)

· Turn right onto Connor Road and follow to Washington Road (Route 19)

· Turn right onto Washington Road (Route 19)

· At the split with Cochran Road (Route 19), continue straight on Washington Road (Truck 19/Route 3069)

· Washington Road becomes West Liberty Avenue

· Follow West Liberty Avenue to Route 51

Hillview Street will close to traffic between Route 51 and Kingwood Street during the same time frame for roadway and culvert reconstruction.

Additionally, the staircase along Hillview Street will close, causing pedestrian traffic to use a temporary crossing on Route 88.

Traffic on Hillview street will be detoured as follows:

· Take Kingwood Street to Homehurst Avenue

· Follow Homehurst Avenue to 6th Street

· Turn right onto 6th Street and follow to Route 88 (Library Road)

· Turn left onto southbound Route 88

· Turn right onto Connor Road (Route 3038) and follow to Washington Road (Route 19)

· Turn right onto Washington Road (Route 19)

· At the split with Cochran Road (Route 19), continue straight on Washington Road (Truck 19/Route 3069)

· Washington Road becomes West Liberty Avenue

· Follow West Liberty Avenue to Route 51
