PITTSBURGH — The shelves are nearly bare at the Northside Food Pantry, just days before hundreds of people are expected to come in to shop for the holidays.

"We were well stocked Monday evening, but Tuesday brought over 100 families to shop. We now have no hearty soup, baking mixes, crackers, cookies, and jam/jelly," pantry advisors said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

Instead of financial donations or gift cards, the pantry really needs donations of food – and quickly.

“We expect hundreds more people Friday & Saturday so this is incredibly urgent,” the post said.

Dec.15 - 30 is the busiest time of the year, drawing more than 500 families to the pantry.

Donations can be brought to the front door of the pantry on Brighton Road 24 hours a day.
