For the second straight week, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy shouted out Steelers Nation for their support. A sea of Terrible Towels filled Stade de France on Sunday in the first-ever NFL game in France.
“I think going on the road is definitely an advantage for the Pittsburgh Steelers and has been for quite some time. But I saw a lot of Saints fans there, too. I just want to give credit to the whole atmosphere. It was fun. The music was phenomenal, and the fan engagement was excellent,” McCarthy said following his team’s 16-10 win over the New Orleans Saints. “You can never get enough of seeing the Terrible Towels flying, especially in key moments of the game. Our fans always show up, but I thought the entire atmosphere, the field, and the stadium were just impressive. It was top-notch. It’s been a joy to play here.”
The Steelers have one of the biggest fan bases in the NFL, so it’s not surprising that there was a ton of black and gold in France. The Saints, who were the designated home team, had a strong showing at the game as well. But there were certainly more Steelers fans.
