PITTSBURGH — The owner of several popular restaurants in Pittsburgh has been arrested for domestic violence.
Richard DeShantz, 55, is facing charges of strangulation and assault.
According to a criminal complaint, on Oct. 3, at around 1:21 a.m., DeShantz is accused of punching a woman in her face, slamming her against the steering wheel and choking her while she was driving after she picked up Deshantz and his brother from a bar in the Strip District.
The victim told police that when they arrived at DeShantz’s house, she followed him to make sure he got inside OK because he was allegedly intoxicated. He then grabbed her by the hair, threw her to the ground and tried to hit her head off the pavement, the complaint states.
DeShantz was arrested and was taken to the Allegheny County Jail, but is now out on bail.
DeShantz is the chef and owner of Richard DeShantz Group in Pittsburgh, which consists of over a dozen restaurants, including Meat & Potatoes, Butcher and the Rye, Tako, Coop De Ville, Poulet Bleu and more.
