Part of eastbound I-80 closes after multi-vehicle crash

Part of a major highway is closed because of a multi-vehicle crash.

PennDOT officials announced the closure of eastbound I-80 between Exit 60 and Exit 78 around 1:45 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police say there are “unknown injuries” at this point.

As a detour, PennDOT says drivers should get off the highway at Exit 60, then travel Route 66 North to Route 322 East and merge onto I-80 at Exit 70 in Strattanville.

The eastbound lanes aren’t expected to reopen until at least 10:30 p.m.

Following this crash and due to the “severity of the winter storm,” PennDOT reduced I-80 speed limits from Exit 53 to Exit 73. The speed limit was restricted to 45 mph for all vehicles, and commercial vehicles must move to the right lane.

Drivers in the area are asked to use caution.

PSP is investigating and getting help from multiple agencies, fire departments and tow services.
