PENN HILLS, Pa. — The Penn Hills Council is planning to secure a $9.4 million loan to fund two municipal projects.
Those projects include the acquisition and conversion of a former YMCA building on Frankstown Road into a community hub and senior center.
The proposed bond funding would also assist in financing the construction of a new salt shed for the township.
The proposal has sparked mixed reactions from community members. Some residents have voiced opposition to the plan, arguing that the council should direct the capital into the township’s existing senior center instead. Other individuals contend that the project will benefit the area.
Among those supporting the effort is resident Kelly Anchor.
“This is a good idea,” Anchor said. “The senior citizen center, I’m for helping all of it and I hope we can take it all but that is a suggestion, they did not say they were going to specifically for sure going to move that.”
The Penn Hills Council is scheduled to meet again later this month to further discuss the bond and determine subsequent steps.
