PennDOT reduces speed on area highways due to winter storm

Due to a winter storm, the speed limit on area highways is being reduced.

PennDOT announced around 5 p.m. that the speed limit on I-80 from the Ohio state line to Exit 192 was reduced to 45 mph for all vehicles.

The same speed reduction is in effect on the following highways:

Allegheny County

  • Interstates 79, 376 (Parkways East and West), 279 (Parkway North), and 579
  • Route 28

Beaver County

  • Interstate 376 (Beaver Valley Expressway)

Greene County

  • Interstate 79

Lawrence County

  • Interstate 376
  • Interstate 79

Washington County

  • Interstate 79
  • Interstate 70

Westmoreland County

  • Interstate 70

Commercial vehicles must also move to the right lane.

PennDOT officials say crews have been treating roadways, with the primary goal of keeping them passable. The roads will not be completely free of cie and snow.

PennDOT advises avoiding driving during winter storms. But, if you have to drive, officials suggest using the agency’s 511PA map to check road conditions.
