ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — A man is charged with homicide following the deadly shooting of another man in Aliquippa on Tuesday.
Beaver County 911 dispatchers said emergency crews were called to the 1100 block of Wade Street near Maratta Road at 9:05 p.m.
Gevod Tyson, 24, was found shot and later died at an Allegheny County hospital.
In a release, Pennsylvania State Police say officers detained 25-year-old Taevaughn Goodnight after hearing that he and an unnamed woman were involved in the incident.
Goodnight reportedly admitted to fighting with Tyson and shooting him once in the thigh before leaving with the woman.
Online court records show Goodnight was charged with criminal homicide and is being held in the Beaver County Jail. He has been denied bail.
According to the criminal complaint, a woman called Monaca police at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a custody dispute over her and Tyson’s 5-year-old child.
The woman reportedly called 911 at 8:33 p.m., claiming Tyson hadn’t returned her child as a court had ordered him to.
After the shooting, police interviewed witnesses, who claimed there’d been a dispute outside a Wade Street residence.
Witnesses told police Tyson put a gun on the hood of a vehicle before getting into a fight with Goodnight, records say. Witnesses said a gunshot went off during the fight, and Tyson ran inside the residence and then back out again.
Witnesses claim Tyson was bleeding heavily and fell down a hillside, and Goodnight drove off with the woman.
Police interviewed the woman, who said she called 911 to report the incident while in a vehicle with Goodnight.
She claimed she was in an altercation with members of Tyson’s family on Wade Street. While there, she heard a gunshot and tried unsuccessfully to retrieve her child before leaving with Goodnight.
Police interviewed Goodnight, who said Tyson put a gun on the hood of a vehicle before they fought. Goodnight said he had a loaded handgun in his own pocket at the time.
Tyson allegedly knocked Goodnight to the ground and said, “You done now.” Goodnight claimed he took out his gun and shot once behind his back at Tyson.
Goodnight told police that he left in his vehicle after Tyson ran into the residence.
