With a 5-2 loss to the Brewers in Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon, the Pirates fell to last place in the National League Central.
Scoring Plays
Bottom 1st, 1-0 MIL: Jackson Chourio cleared the glove of a leaping Jake Mangum in center field and gave the Brewers (72-43) the lead with a one-out home run off Braxton Ashcraft (11-5).
Bottom 3rd, 2-0 MIL: David Hamilton drew a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a Cooper Pratt sacrifice fly to right field.
Top 4th, 2-2: Brandon Lowe gave the Pirates (57-60) their first hit off Dustin May (6-7) with an opposite-field home run to lead off the inning. Later in the inning, Spencer Horwitz tied the game with an RBI single to center.
Bottom 5th, 4-2 MIL: Gary Sánchez put the Brewers back ahead with a solo home run to left field. Milwaukee tacked on another when Brice Turang was credited with an RBI single when a sharp grounder deflected off the glove of third baseman Nick Gonzales.
Bottom 6th, 5-2 MIL: Garrett Mitchell led off the inning with a hustle double to center and scored on Andrew Vaughn’s base hit to left field off Gregory Soto.
