Pirates starter Jared Jones has been named the National League Pitcher of the Month for September, and left-hander Mason Montgomery was tabbed the league’s Reliever of the Month.
Jones made five starts this month and went 3-0 with a 0.93 ERA. In 29 innings, he allowed three runs on 13 hits with four walks and a league-leading 40 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .133 with a .338 OPS against him.
Jones, who returned from elbow surgery at the end of May, made 21 starts for the Pirates this season and went 5-6 with a 3.72 ERA.
The last Pirate to win NL Pitcher of the Month was Paul Skenes last July.
