The Pirates’ crucial road trip to Chicago couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.
Jared Jones carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and Oneil Cruz had a big game offensively to lift the Pirates to a 2-0 win and a sweep of the White Sox on Thursday night at Rate Field.
Scoring Plays
Top 5th, 1-0 PIT: Oneil Cruz got the Pirates (74-73) on the board with a no-doubt home run to center off Erick Fedde (8-9). Cruz’s 18th blast of the season measured 433 feet.
Top 8th, 2-0 PIT: Jared Triolo led off the inning with an infield single off Fedde. After the White Sox (75-71) turned to Bryan Hudson, Cruz ripped an RBI single to right field.
Key Moments
Colson Montgomery broke up Jared Jones’ no-hit bid by doubling high off the right field fence. Jones remained in the game and got Braden Montgomery to fly out to left on the first pitch of the at-bat to keep the Pirates’ 1-0 lead intact.
