PITTSBURGH — Pitt’s volleyball team hit the court for the first time at the university’s new Victory Heights Arena and Sports Performance Center.
The annual Blue/Gold intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday marks the first Pitt Athletics event held in the new venue.
Officials said the $240 million arena has been in the works since 2020 and believe it will bring a lot to both the students and the community.
“It came about because of the need for our student-athletes to have a space that meets their level of competition and experience across the board,” Deputy Athletic Director Dustin Gray said.
The 240,000-square-foot facility is adjacent to the Petersen Events Center and replaces the Fitzgerald Field House. The arena seats up to 3,600 people, and the Sports Performance Center serves 16 of Pitt’s 19 varsity teams.
The arena will also be home to the university’s wrestling and gymnastics teams.
