WILKINSBURG, Pa. — The Allegheny County Health Department has ordered a Pittsburgh-area grocery store to close.
The order follows a Tuesday inspection at Yard and Abroad Caribbean Grocery, located along Park Avenue in Wilkinsburg.
A food safety assessment report lists nine violations observed at the store, with three being classified as “high risk” for foodborne illness.
According to the report, inspectors found food products for sale from an unknown source.
Food products were also found in a cooler with sea moss, a freezer contained unmarked packages of raw meat and a cooler contained unmarked packages of cheese.
Inspectors say they found raw chicken in a cooler being held at an unsafe temperature.
Additionally, a self-serve area reportedly offered unpackaged raw meat.
Other violations include:
- No hot water in the entire facility
- No dedicated mop sink and three-compartment sink
- Flies inside the facility
- Lack of a valid health permit
Inspectors ordered the store to take steps toward obtaining a food permit and have a master plumber complete plumbing work.
