PITTSBURGH — “I’m out of a car and a job at this point,” Jarod Stowers told Channel 11.
In 24 hours, Stowers went from working as a delivery driver for Szechuan Spice in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood to trying to figure out how he’ll pay his bills.
“It’s not just a car to me. It’s like my livelihood. I would hope they know that and feel some amount of remorse,” Stowers said.
He was out last night delivering on South Millvale in Bloomfield. Surveillance video shows where he put his car in park. Within 60 seconds of him getting out of his car to deliver the food and then walking back, his car was gone.
“I felt crazy because I thought I parked in the wrong spot or I was having trouble finding it. It felt like it literally just vanished,” he said.
A stranger got into his car, and another person appeared to be standing as a lookout. Then the driver sped off, and the lookout started running.
“I was out of the car. I was at a house maybe 200 feet from it. It’s crazy to see somebody get out of their car and hope that you get your timing right,” he added.
The timing for Stowers couldn’t be worse.
“I just moved out of my mom’s house for the first time, and now I’m like I have all the responsibility of my bills and everything was gaining momentum and then all of a sudden, I just got the car stolen,” he said.
Police tell Channel 11 they are reviewing camera footage from the area — while Stowers tries to figure out what’s next.
“I’m pretty much out of a job until further notice, until I can find another car to use or scrounge up some money to buy another one.”
