PITTSBURGH — The first Pittsburgh Lace Up for 1 in 100 fun run and walk was held Saturday morning at the North Park Boat House.

The fundraiser benefits the Adult Congenital Heart Association.

The title of the 5K refers to the medical statistic that one in 100 people are affected by some type of congenital heart disease.

Event organizers stated they had wanted to bring the Lace Up run to the Pittsburgh area for a long time prior to Saturday’s inaugural run.

Channel 11’s Jennifer Tomazic attended the morning run and walk at North Park.

An event organizer with the Adult Congenital Heart Association highlighted the importance of raising public awareness around heart disease and encouraging early health screenings.

“The statistics say that one in 100 people — that’s why the name — one in 100 people suffer from some form of heart disease so us being able to bring it forward have people understand have people screen themselves have people know they are not alone,” the organizer said. “That makes a big difference.”
