Pittsburgh named 2026 World Festival & Event City by IFEA for 3rd year in a row

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh has been named a 2026 World Festival & Event City by the International Festivals & Events Association for the third consecutive year.

The municipality is one of five cities in the United States to earn the designation in 2026.

Brian Katze, Film & Events Manager for the City of Pittsburgh, accepted the award during the IFEA 71st Anniversary Convention & Expo in Tucson, Ariz. An international panel of experts selected award recipients based on criteria including municipal support for events, generated economic impact and contributions to resident quality of life.

Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor highlighted the work of municipal employees and local event organizers who facilitate gatherings across the city.

“Pittsburgh is a city where our festivals and events bring residents, families and visitors together to be a part of the energy and vibrancy of our neighborhoods,” O’Connor said. “We are proud to be named a 2026 IFEA World Festival & Event City and of the work of our city staff and event organizers who make events of all sizes possible. Whether it’s a block party, festival, conference or other major event, Pittsburgh invites everyone to come and experience these great events in our city.”

VisitPITTSBURGH President & CEO Jerad Bachar noted that the award coincided with major regional events, including the city hosting the 2026 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh’s submission to the IFEA featured local events such as the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival, the Three Rivers Arts Festival and the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.

“Earning this recognition for a third consecutive year is a remarkable achievement for Pittsburgh,” Bachar said. “In a landmark year for major events across our region—anchored by the tremendous undertaking of hosting the 2026 NFL Draft—this honor is a testament to the dedication of our event organizers, community partners and stakeholders, whose efforts have elevated Pittsburgh on the global stage.”

The Office of Film & Event Management serves as the permitting and consulting authority for all film and event projects within the city. The international designation supports VisitPITTSBURGH’s 10-Year Tourism Development Plan, which seeks to expand event capacity and build a countywide promotion strategy. Other municipalities receiving the 2026 award include McAllen, Texas; Historic Kailua Village, Hawaii; and Philadelphia.
