PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh's Mia Z’s time on NBC’s “The Voice” came to an end Tuesday night after she failed to secure enough retweets during the show’s #VoiceSave.
The Westmoreland County native performed T-Bone Walker’s “Stormy Monday” during Tuesday’s broadcast after she wasn’t one of the top nine voted through to the next round.
However, it wasn’t enough to launch her into the Top 10. She and Brian Johnson of Team Adam were sent home, while Deanna Johnson of Team Adam advanced.
The night before, Mia Z sang The Rolling Stones’ hit “Miss You,” blowing away all four judges as she had in the past few weeks.
“You have the ability to do something only a handful of vocalists in the world have,” said Blake Shelton.
Adam Levine and Christian Aguilera applauded her song choice and gave her high remarks for her pitch-perfect high notes before Mia Z’s own coach, Pharrell Williams, offered his praise.
“I’m so happy for you, and I can’t wait to do more with you,” Williams said.
After getting off stage, Mia Z called to thank her supporters who gathered at Kiski Area High School, where she attends classes as a sophomore, to watch the show and cheer her on.

Mia Z advanced to the Top 12 after performing Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” April 6.
“I think you’re the most underrated singer on the show right now,” said Shelton after she took the stage.
Meanwhile, Levine offered no criticism whatsoever, and Aguilera said she “got a little inspired” by the performance.
Williams said he believed she would secure the votes she needed to move on in the competition.
“I’m very proud and confident in the fact that America is going to love you as much as I love you,” he said.
The 16-year-old moved on to the show’s Live Playoff Rounds after securing the second spot in the show’s first three-way Knockout Round on March 23.
During that show, Mia Z went up against Paul Pfau and Sawyer Fredericks. Three competed, instead of the usual two, because one participant had to bow out of the competition.
Mia Z impressed all four judges with her performance of Sam and Dave’s “Hold On, I’m Comin’.”
“I never heard anyone navigate a melody like you did,” Shelton said.
Levine added that he believed she was speaking “dolphin language,” referring to the ease in which she hit the song’s high notes.
Williams chose Sawyer to move on first followed by Mia Z, sending Paul home when no judges stepped in to “steal” him.
Mia Z, who is from Hyde Park, joined Team Pharrell during the season’s premiere week after Williams and Shelton turned their chairs around during her blind audition.
