A Pittsburgh Penguin was taken to a hospital after suffering a “medical episode” on a plane.

The team was flying from Salt Lake City International Airport on Tuesday when forward Ben Kindel suffered what the team called a “medical episode” shortly after takeoff. The exact details of that incident have not been shared at this time.

Team physician Dr. Dharmesh Vyas of UPMC and team medical staff were on the plane and rendered aid as the plane returned to Salt Lake City International Airport.

Kindel was taken to the University of Utah Hospital via ambulance once the team landed.

A Penguins spokesperson said he was awake and alert at that time. He was listed in stable condition.

“The health and safety of our players, as well as the privacy for their families, are our top priority,” a team spokesperson said.

The team said more details will be provided when appropriate.
