PITTSBURGH — The next step in Phase 2 of PRT’s nearly $300 million University Line Project is set to start Monday, October 26.
This phase deals with Oakland and Uptown.
Kirkpatrick Street, right across from the Birmingham Bridge, will close Monday and Tuesday. There will be intermittent closures from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. the rest of the week.
“We’re just going to have to deal with it,” Abby Yahannes said. She drives the road nearly every day.
“I’m sure it’s for a good reason. This is just the usual way I commute, so it’s kind of a bummer,” she said.
Crews will be completing milling and paving work.
“It seems like gridlock all over Pittsburgh. It’s so hard to even get to work anymore,” Jamie Stillwacki said. She drives from Oakland to Monessen.
“The construction and blockages are already so bad. I work at UPMC and it takes two hours to get home. I can’t imagine what this is going to do to my commute.”
The entire project is expected to wrap up in 2027.
Bus stops will remain in service, but buses won’t be able to pull up to sidewalks.
On Friday, October 30, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., the westbound Boulevard of the Allies on-ramp from Fifth Avenue will close for up to two hours.
