PITTSBURGH — The Veterans Day Parade is in its 102nd year in Pittsburgh.
It’s one of the oldest in the country, to salute the men and women who served our country.
Patriotic music filled the streets of downtown Pittsburgh Thursday morning as the parade made its way on Liberty Avenue, which was lined with spectators.
This year’s parade theme is “Honoring a New Generation of Warriors.”
Last year’s parade was drastically scaled back because of the pandemic, but this year it returned in full force.
The parade featured high school marching bands, groups representing veterans of all eras, military units, as well as civic and youth groups.
We talked with Nancy Hoffman, a Gold Star Mother who appreciates this parade that celebrates veterans like her son Robert.
“Oh for me, in a way, rewarding like my son still lives on through this and just for other moms. We’re never going to forget. We’re never going to forget our sons or daughters. We’re never going to forget her veterans. We love our veterans.”
A flyover by the 911th Airlift Wing was scheduled, but did not happen.
