Pittsburgh, Allegheny County opening cooling centers during high heat on Thursday, Friday

PITTSBURGH — With high heat back in the forecast on Thursday and Friday, Pittsburgh and Allegheny County officials have decided to open cooling centers.

Pittsburgh CitiParks is activating six Healthy Active Living Centers as Cooling Centers from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.

The cooling center locations are as follows:              

Beechview Healthy Active Living Community Center

  • 1555 Broadway Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15216

Brighton Heights Healthy Active Living Community Center

  • 3515 McClure Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Greenfield Healthy Active Living Community Center

  • 745 Greenfield Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217

Homewood Healthy Active Living Community Center

  • 7321 Frankstown Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15208

Sheraden Healthy Active Living Community Center

  • 720 Sherwood Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15204

South Side Healthy Active Living Community Center

  • 12th & Bingham Streets Pittsburgh, PA 15203         

Allegheny County officials, who declared a Code Red Heat Advisory, also highlighted a couple of other cooling centers opening on Thursday and Friday:

  • Elizabeth Seton Center (8 a.m. to 7 p.m.) - 1900 Pioneer Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15226
  • LifeSpan (8 a.m. to 7 p.m.) - Clairton 530 Miller Ave Clairton, PA 15025
  • LifeSpan - Mon Valley Olympia Park Shopping Center 4313 Walnut Street McKeesport, PA 15132
    • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday. 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday
  • NAMS (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) - Sharpsburg 209 13th Street Pittsburgh, PA 15215
  • NAMS (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) - Tarentum 704 Second Avenue, Suite 100-B Tarentum, PA 15084
  • Plum Community Center (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) - 499 Center-New Texas Road Pittsburgh, PA 15239
