PITTSBURGH — A lengthy law enforcement chase through multiple communities in Allegheny County ended in a crash at the corner of Penn Avenue and 39th Street in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, just after 2:00.
The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office says the pursuit began in Carrick after detectives tried to serve a bench warrant for aggravated assault and firearms violations.
Court documents allege authorities were trying to serve Tre Wingate.
“It was stunning. You don’t see something like that every day,” said Mark Smith, who lives nearby and saw the tail end of the chase.
According to Smith, a Sheriff’s Office car was following the suspect’s vehicle down Penn Avenue, when another Sheriff’s Office car came down 39th Street, pinning the suspect’s car against the other Sheriff’s Office car.
Before that, court documents allege the suspect led officers on a high-speed chase and repeatedly wove in and out of the oncoming lane of traffic.
“They like totally coordinated like to pin him. It was a good job of police work,” Smith said.
Smith says he saw three young men in their teens or early 20s in the car being chased.
Officials confirm at least two people were in the car.
Court documents identify the men as Shileak Livingston, who was driving, and Timothy Peterson, who was the passenger.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, no one was hurt, though the cars involved suffered significant damage.
“For a few seconds like, ‘What just happened?’ I could see the airbags go off and stuff,” said Smith.
Livingston is facing over a dozen charges because of the chase, including reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, aggravated assault and numerous traffic citations. Peterson is facing two counts of possession with intent to deliver.
The court documents allege items thrown from the car tested positive for drugs, and additional drug evidence was found in the car.
