PITTSBURGH — Police determined that a student at Duquesne University made false claims about being robbed and sexually assaulted last month, police told Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE.

The student told police she was walking in the 1000 block of Watson Alley behind the Barnes & Noble around 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 28 when three black men approached her.

She then told police the men forced her to go with them to an apartment on Crawford Street near the City View Apartment building. The victim said she was sexually assaulted at the apartment and had money and a credit card stolen from her.

An alert was issued to employees and students after the report.

Police did not state reasoning for why the student wrongly told them she was assaulted.

"I will only state that the investigation determined that the student's claims were untrue," Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler told TribLIVE.

Toler said the investigation has not yet determined what has happened to the student and is ongoing.
