SPRINGDALE, Pa. — Rumors are swirling about a possible threat at the Allegheny Valley Junior-Senior High School in Springdale.
Channel 11 has confirmed the threat was “unfounded”.
Springdale Borough Police said they reached out to the Allegheny Valley School District after getting several calls from concerned parents about a post where a student threatened to “shoot up” the school.
The borough police did not conduct their own investigation, but the school district police did, who determined the threat to be unfounded.
“The safety and security of the students, faculty, staff, and families of our school district are of the utmost importance to the Springdale Borough Police Department. Any report or allegation involving a potential act of violence at a school is taken extremely seriously,” Springdale Police Chief Derek Dayoub told Channel 11 “Although this matter was never directly reported to or handled by our department, once parents and concerned members of our school district community began contacting us and the information was brought to our attention, we promptly reached out to the appropriate school officials to determine what was known about the situation.”
Chief Dayoub added that out of an abundance of caution, their department will have a presence at the school on Thursday for student arrival and will maintain additional presence over the next few days.
We have reached out to the school district and are waiting to hear back.
