PITTSBURGH — A jitney driver is facing conspiracy charges after police said he drove the getaway car for a man described as a “clumsy” bank robber.

Investigators said the driver, Christopher Clinton, was charged Thursday night. According to police, Clinton drove the robber to a Citizens Bank on Metropolitan Street in Pittsburgh’s North Side Thursday afternoon.

Clinton told investigators that he witnessed the man running out of the bank with a security guard following him. Clinton said he realized the man had robbed the bank, but continued to drive him several blocks before ordering him to get out of the car.

The criminal complaint stated that Clinton had driven the robber before and had driven the getaway vehicle for him during a bank robbery in September.

Police said the masked man tripped and fell after he grabbed money from a teller. Investigators said the man also left behind his hat.

The robber remains on the run.
