HOPEWELL, Pa. — An 81-year-old man has been upgraded to serious condition a day after he was found bound and gagged after a home invasion robbery during which his car was stolen from outside his Hopewell Township home.

Hopewell Township police haven't named any suspects in the attack on Dan Santia, who was listed in critical condition Monday at Allegheny General Hospital. His condition was upgraded Tuesday.

Channel 11’s Amy Marcinkiewicz learned that police were called to Santia’s house on South Beverly Street around 1 p.m. Monday about a robbery.

Investigators are still working to figure out what, if anything, else was stolen from Santia's home.

Authorities said someone broke into Santia's home late Sunday or early Monday and tied him up before stealing his Cadillac. A caretaker arrived to find Santia later Monday, and his car was recovered about 6 p.m. that day.

“It’s a tragedy because you don’t like to see this happen to anyone, especially the elderly,” neighbor Georgia Dadig said. “Something as severe as this is just heart-wrenching.”

Neighbors said Santia has lived in the house for decades.
