POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A new investigation into another person has been launched after the arrest of Kenneth Konias Jr. on Monday.
Law enforcement officials told Target 11 that Konias was seeing two women and one of them got away with $99,000.
A woman who was at the private Pompano Beach home where Konias was arrested said she knew he gave money to a girlfriend.
“She took $30,000 from him,” Shewona Flowers said. “The girlfriend had it at the hotel. I don’t know where she is though.”
Investigators said they're in the process of trying to track that woman down.
Authorities have already recovered more than $1 million of the stolen cash in Florida, officials said. Some of the money was recovered at the house and some at a nearby storage facility. Officials said at least $425,000 of the stolen cash is still unaccounted for.
According to police, investigators have also learned where Konias was potentially headed after Florida.
“He didn’t say where he was from, he just said he was going out of town to Jamaica,” Flowers said.
Konias had been renting a room at the house for only two weeks. Before that, police said he had been staying at a Haitian community north of Fort Lauderdale near Boca Raton.
Investigators told Channel 11’s Rick Earle that Konias was preparing to go to Haiti.
Pittsburgh police are expected to arrive in Pompano Beach late Wednesday or early Thursday to continue interviewing witnesses and piecing together where Konias had been and if anyone helped him.
Konias was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Michael Haines, 31, of East McKeesport, and with stealing $2.3 million from a Garda Cash Logistics vehicle on Feb. 28.
