WASHINGTON, Pa. — Although it may just be a baseball game, the Pony League Baseball World Series is an international event that brings a lot of money into Washington County’s economy.
Mexico, Germany and Japan are just a few countries that people have traveled from to Washington, Pa., for the Pony League World Series’ 51st year in Washington County.
The arrival of people from all over the globe is also bringing lots of money to the local economy.
"It's a little over a $1 million impact in about six days of this event," said Bob Gregg, chairman of the Pony League. “They are staying in hotels, eating in restaurants, buying things in all the stores; it's huge for the area economically."
The games and economic boost are something that brings the whole community together, just like baseball has brought children from around the world together.
"They could not communicate one word, yet they laughed and smiled with balls and gloves for over an hour without saying a word to each other," said Rick Herrnberger, manager of the host team.
