PITTSBURGH — Big thanks to the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh for sharing these pictures of a life-size cutout of Pope Francis showing off his Pittsburgh pride!
A ton of Pittsburghers are in Washington, D.C. to see the Pope.
Sister Suzanne Thibalut is with a group from Serra Catholic High School in Washington, D.C. to see the school's patron, Junipera Serra, be canonized as a saint by Pope Francis.
“Being that he is the first to be canonized on our soil and have the pope here in the U.S. is tremendous,” Thibalut said.
In addition to a thousand pins that the principal brought, Serra Catholic High School leaders hope to have a relic of Junipera Serra blessed by the pope.
Channel 11's Lisa Sylvester also caught up with Vince Gentile, of Natrona Heights, who was too happy to show off his ticket.
Gentile, who has cerebral palsy, checked in weekly with the Pittsburgh Diocese by phone and through letters, asking for the rare chance to see the pope.
“Lisa, I am extra ecstatic to be here. It seems like so long I started this journey that is now here,” he said.
