MOUNT LEBANON, Pa. -- While a deer cull in Mount Lebanon began Monday night, those opposed to the controversial plan continued to voice their objections during a council meeting Tuesday.

Prior to packing the council meeting, Mount Lebanon residents protested the plan on the street with signs in hand.
"I think it's disgraceful that Mount Lebanon is doing this. They ought to be ashamed of themselves,” said Elaine Rosenfield, who is against the cull.
A contractor has been hired to trap and shoot 150 deer by March 31.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission approved the plan for wildlife specialists from Wellsboro, to lure five to six deer at a time into a fenced in area before closing the door and then euthanizing them.
Council members confirmed Tuesday night that no deer have been killed so far. However, that news didn’t stop some residents from speaking out about the way in which leaders chose to put the deer down.
“You're baiting, trapping, shooting at night. Every law that we abide by, they're breaking,” said Dan Dolin, a hunter who is opposed to the cull.
There were others, though, who said they were glad to see some action was being taken to control the deer population.
Since the Mount Lebanon Police Department began tracking deer-related incidents in 2011, there have been 816 reported.
Council members stood behind their decision, saying they are moving forward with what they believe to be the best option. They added that in the future, they'd be open to discussing different ways of dealing with the deer population after their current cull expires at the end of the month.
