PRT: 2 rail closures will impact T service in Pittsburgh this weekend

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Regional Transit announced two rail service closures planned for this weekend that will affect light rail and bus travel across the system.

Riders should expect delays of up to 20 minutes during both closures.

The first closure will temporarily suspend light rail service between First Avenue and Steel Plaza stations from the end of service Friday through the start of service Sunday. Crews from the agency’s Way Department will replace a switch, while the Power and Signals Department replaces a signal.

Shuttle buses will operate between First Avenue at First Avenue Station and Ross Street at Steel Plaza Station during the first closure. A rail shuttle will also run between Steel Plaza and Allegheny stations. All stations will remain accessible, with Pittsburgh Regional Transit staff available at Steel Plaza to assist passengers with transfers.

The second work area will shut down the Mt. Washington Tunnel from 5 p.m. Sunday until the start of service Monday. Duquesne Light will perform electrical work inside the tunnel during the closure.

All inbound and outbound light rail service will detour through Allentown while the tunnel is closed. A rail shuttle will run between the outbound platform at Station Square and Allegheny Station to maintain corridor service. Inbound buses will detour onto Allentown streets, while outbound buses will use the Wabash Tunnel.
