MIDLAND, Pa. — Residents packed a meeting Thursday night in Beaver County over a proposed zoning change that would allow a developer to build a data center.
The Midland Borough Council meeting ended with leaders moving the issue to the borough and county planning commissions to set a public hearing Sept. 10.
The borough’s attorney says the developer still has a long way to go before potentially getting the green light to build.
“They would have to submit plans for what they’re going to do, how they’re going to do it, the decibels as far as noise and this or that is concerned,” attorney Myron Sainovich said.
Before the meeting, concerned neighbors protested outside.
“The proposed new sites will be basically surrounding my house, and on top of that, we have a hyperscale data center going in right across the river in Shippingport,” neighbor Kendra Groscost said.
Neighbors told us it’s their duty to protect their water and air resources from corporations that want to build data centers.
