Robert Morris University is expanding opportunities for female student-athletes.
The college will start offering NCAA Division I women’s flag football in the 2027-28 season.
This comes after the NCAA added women’s flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women program in January; a designation that enables colleges and universities across all three NCAA divisions to sponsor varsity flag football teams.
The sport is also scheduled to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
“Adding women’s flag football is a tremendous opportunity for female student-athletes and for Morris University,” Ron Moses said, RMU vice president and director of athletics. “As this sport continues its remarkable growth, we have an opportunity to provide talented student-athletes with a Division I competitive experience and an outstanding RMU education. We’re excited to build a program that reflects the momentum of the sport and the standards we have for Morris Athletics.”
RMU will start a national search for the program’s inagural head coach next week. The head coach will establish the team’s identity, oversee program development and recruit the inaugural roster.
RMU plans to announce further program details, including the hiring of its inaugural head coach and the official competition schedule, as information becomes available.
