Fire chief: Massive blaze at old Aliquippa market ‘suspicious'

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — Flames caused a roof collapse at an Aliquippa market Wednesday morning and fire investigators say it appears the blaze is suspicious.

Channel 11’s Brandon Hudson reported that Walkers Market on Davis Street was closed at the time of the fire, and no people were inside.

"The fire had a good start on us," said Aliquippa fire Chief Dave Foringer. "We're calling in the state police fire marshal to see (if anything is suspicious)."

The flames rekindled several times.

"I was in my kitchen and I heard something like a pop noise," said neighbor Anitra Lowe. "I went upstairs and I could see through my bedroom window the building was in flames, engulfed in flames."

Officials said one firefighter was hurt while fighting the flames. He was shocked by a power line when he went inside, but he has since been treated and released from an area hospital.
