Township officials told WPXI's Melanie Gillespie that this has been an on-going problem for years.

"We put them up during the week. The weekends they rip them down," said Ken Trumbetta, Salem Township supervisor.

According to officials there were more than 10 signs missing just last week.

"It's unfortunate. It's disappointing…It's a waste of taxpayer money obviously and a waste of everybody's time,” said Kerry Jobe, Salem Township supervisor.

This is not Jobe’s only concern though.

"Somebody's life could be jeopardy. Somebody's whole family could be in jeopardy,” said Jobe.

Township supervisors are worried that emergency personnel will have trouble locating homes with signs missing.

"I would strongly think twice. It may one of their family members who calls for help and because of them pulling signs down, it may delay the response time and may be a matter of life or death for their loved one,” said Dominic Damico of Slickville Volunteer Fire Department.

Between Nov. 25 and Dec. 1, 2015, there have been approximately 22 street name signs and two 10 ton weight limit signs stolen. The loss to Salem Township is approximately $786.

Some of the road signs were taken from both ends of the road.

The Remington Rd. sign has been the most popular sign stolen and has been replaced about a dozen times.

Salem Township is currently taking measures to install cameras at certain locations to identify thieves.
