HOMEWOOD, Pa. — Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a two-vehicle accident involving a school bus Tuesday morning in Homewood.

Channel 11’s Dave Bondy reported the accident happened at the intersection of Oakwood and Bennett streets about 7 a.m.

The bus driver, Tanya Taylor, said she was at the intersection when an SUV ran a red light and slammed into the side of the bus.

“He came blazing through that light. He had to be going at least 45 or 50 mph,” Taylor said.

According to Bondy, there were about 12 students, from Propel in Braddock, on the bus at the time of the accident. The students were taken to school on a different bus.

One student was taken to an area hospital as a precaution, Bondy reported. He said the bus driver and driver of the SUV were also taken to a hospital to be checked out.

Cecilia Foreman, whose daughter was on the bus, said she got a call from her daughter and immediately went to the scene.

“She said, ‘Mom, my bus was in an accident. I need you to come get me,’” Foreman said. “She is doing alright. We are going to take her to the hospital just to get checked up on.”

The incident remains under investigation. Police said they have interviewed witnesses, but no tickets have been given out.
