The latest additions include Mario Lemieux, Franco Harris and Myron Cope.
Pittsburgh Walk of Fame Founder and Executive Director Nancy Polinsky Johnson said she could not have asked for a better day to add the new icons to the walk.
“A friend of mine sent a message to me yesterday. She said, ‘I just checked the weather app to see what we’re going to have tomorrow at 10:30 in the morning,’ and what she saw was 66 degrees and sunny…How perfect is that?” Polinsky Johnson said.
Sixty-six, synonymous with the Penguins great and philanthropist Mario Lemieux, one of only two living inductees for this year’s Pittsburgh Walk of Fame class.
“When I look at all the stars, incredible people who have accomplished so much and done amazing things in their lives. I’m so honored to be included,” Lemieux said.
Also included was actress and singer Shirley Jones, who’s 92 years old now. She is most known for her lead role in The Partridge Family.
“There is no place more meaningful for her to be celebrated than in her hometown of Pittsburgh,” her son Patrick Cassidy said.
Other notable inductees included the man who composed the theme song for The Pink Panther — Henry Mancini.
“This was his home, and I feel that here because when you’re home you’re with family, and that’s how I’ve been made to feel by everybody, Mancini’s son Chris said.
Stars also now shine along Smallman Street for dancer Martha Graham, H.J. Heinz, Jimmy Stewart, George Westinghouse, Myron Cope, Franco Harris and famous photographer Charles “Teenie” Harris.
“I want to keep my father’s legacy going because it’s all over the world now, and that’s the most wonderful thing because he really deserved that,” Harris’ son Lionel said.
