PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police held an event designed to bring its officers and community members closer together.
The Pittsburgh Police Expo was held at the headquarters on Western Avenue from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The event acts as an “open house” and offers residents a chance to see what officers are doing and the resources they have available.
The expo drew in people with an interest in a career in law enforcement and families looking to find something unique to do on the weekend.
“We have a lot to offer, both our community and our prospective police officers. This is just a chance to invite the community to come down and to see what it’s all about,” Police Chief Jason Lando said.
Officers showcased their drones, SWAT vehicles and horses from their mounted unit.
Lando said the department currently has around 800 officers, but they’re planning on hiring continuously over the next few years to get staffing numbers up.
